Who is covered

The law applies to coaches in the settings the bill names. Coverage details matter, so read the official bill text and ask your athletic department or school district whether your role is included.

The deadline: July 1, 2028

Covered coaches are expected to complete the required training by July 1, 2028. Plan early so your staff is not rushing near the deadline.

Renewal every two years

The training is not a one-time event. Coaches renew it every two years, so build it into your department calendar.

Suicide prevention at a minimum

The required content includes suicide prevention at a minimum. Courses vary in what else they cover.

Confirm which courses qualify

Your school decides which courses it accepts. Wilson4Q does not claim that any Wilson4Q course satisfies AB 1985. Use Emotional Fitness education as professional development alongside the training your school approves.
